URGENT Piggy Barn Storm Damage Fundraise. Please note that this fundraiser goal has now been changed to £10,000 due to another tree falling onto Annie and Tansy’s shelter.
Early on the morning of the 7th of December storm Darragh hit the UK and most of Wales and where Beneath the Wood Sanctuary is.
A large tree was blown down on top of the main piggy barn and on top of the area where the 30 full grown piglets reside. There was also an electric cable brought down on the barn which was very scary but thankfully all the power was out in the area.
One of the pigs called Angel hasn’t been the same since. Though she is getting better. 2 shards of the concrete roofing tile were found in the pigs bed. Angel went down the track and wouldn’t come in not even for food. She had a small cut above her eye. So we think one of the shards of roofing tile hit her. She’s normally a really confident, friendly pig but she’s been really scared ever since.
It took several days to get help to remove the tree and the power cables and then assess the situation.
Several parts of this end of the roof have been damaged and compromised with a twisting and bending of the support RSJ’s. The barn now leaks and a temporary tarpaulin has been added to try and keep the pigs bedding dry and the pigs warm and safe.
The storm has also caused extensive damage to fencing and other shelters throughout the whole sanctuary.
There have been many buildings damaged in the local area and it will take some time to get contractors out to repair the piggy barn.
The cost of repairs for the barn fencing and other shelters is estimated to be around £10,000 in total.
