Crowdfunding is the practice of funding projects or ventures by raising money through people making donations via a dedicated internet platform.
Step 1. Identify a need
In order to run a successful crowdfunding project, you should first identify a need or a gap in the market.
Ask yourself… how can your set of skills be fully utilised? This could be in providing a service, hosting an event or manufacturing a product.
Step 2. Set a realistic funding target
Be SMART; specific, measurable, achievable, realistic and time-bound in your strategy.
The targets that you set, need to take into account how much money is needed to complete the project, how this money will be used and where exactly it will go.
It is also important to remember to budget for any rewards you choose to offer your donors and for commission payable to the hosting crowdfunding site, (which differs from site to site).
*You could also ask people to donate time and/ or skills towards projects.
Step 3. Pitch your Project
You need to be absolutely clear about what your project is;
what do you need the money for?
what difference will you make?
Include lots of detail and don’t assume others will understand subject-specific jargon. Essentially, your pitch needs to grab and hold the audience’s attention; be clear, be confident and be passionate!
Step 4. Choose a Crowdfunding platform
First, you will need to know what kind of crowdfunding suits your project best. There are different ways to do this;
- donations only
- loan or equity crowdfunding
